Welcome to the Newport News Department of Human Services!

Our team strives to provide responsive and excellent customer service to contribute to the quality of life in Newport News through caring, commitment, and collaboration.

We provide a broad range of services and programs that empower residents to maintain safe, healthy, and independent lives, as well as assistance through difficulties and emergency situations. These include, but are not limited to:

Financial Assistance/Benefit Programs – Information for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP), Medicaid, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Energy Assistance and Emergency Assistance.

Family, Children and Adult Services – Child Welfare Services, Child Care Assistance, Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Adoption, Services for Senior and Disabled Adults, and Adult Protective Services.

Prevention Services - Home Visiting Programs, Youth Services, Parenting Programs, Employment Services, Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW), SNAP Employment and Training (SNAPET).

Services for the Homeless –  Housing assistance, case management services, employment assistance, personal hygiene facilities and referrals to available assistance in the community.
