1. Who is eligible for a Concealed Handgun Permit?

Virginia Code §18.2-308.02 provides that any person 21 years of age or older may apply in writing to the clerk of the circuit court of the county or city in which he resides, or if he is a member of the United States Armed Forces and stationed outside the Commonwealth, the county or city in which he is domiciled, for a five-year permit to carry a concealed handgun. There shall be no requirement regarding the length of time an applicant has been a resident or domiciliary of the county or city.

2. How will I receive my permit?

If granted, your concealed handgun permit will be mailed to the address listed on your application. If denied, a Court Order stating so will be mailed. If additional information is needed for processing, you will be contacted at the telephone number or email listed on your application – therefore, please take care to complete your application legibly.

3. How do I get a new permit if it has been lost or damaged?

If you have lost your permit or it has been damaged, you may use the appropriate form below to obtain a replacement permit. Please note that there is a $5.00 fee for a replacement permit.

4. How do I change my address if I move?

If you have a change of address that needs to be reported, you may use form SPA-248 to obtain an updated permit. You will need to petition the court that issued your permit as long as it is still valid, regardless of the jurisdiction of your new address. Please note that there is a $10.00 fee for a change of address.

5. Do I qualify for a special permit?
