1. Why is Waterworks changing to monthly billing?

Monthly billing makes it easier for customers to manage their monthly household finances. Monthly billing also provides more timely information about water usage and allows for the early detection and prompt repair of plumbing leaks.

2. When will monthly billing start?

Beginning July 1, 2018, we will convert to reading your meter monthly rather than every other month. The first bill you receive after July 1 will be a “transition bill” that will include dates of service of approximately 30 to 60 days, depending on when your account was last billed. After that, you will be billed every month for approximately 30 days of service. (There may be a slight fluctuation in days of service, usually between 28-32 days.)

3. What will happen to my service fees?

Service fees, fire protection service fees, and sewer service fees (in Newport News and Hampton) will be reduced by half to align with the monthly billing cycle. For example, if you’re currently paying a $26 bi-monthly service fee, your monthly service fee will be $13.

Solid waste service fees are weekly charges. You will continue to be charged only for the number of weeks in the billing cycle.

4. If I pay my bill using automatic recurring payments, do I need to change anything?

If you are enrolled in automatic recurring payments, either through your bank or the Waterworks payment portal, you may need to make adjustments to your payment schedule.

5. How often will my meter be read?

Your meter will be read every month, usually between 28-32 days.

6. Will the bill look different?

The layout of your bill will look the same, but there are a few changes you may notice:

• The meter reading and usage history will reflect approximately 30 days.
• The water consumption graph will show historical bi-monthly as well as new monthly usage.

7. Will the change to monthly billing impact the number of days I have to pay my bill?

Yes, the period between the billing date and the bill due date will be reduced from 25 days to 21 days to accommodate the shorter meter read period.

8. I will need to make payments more often and use more postage. How can I save time and money?

Go Green! Enroll in paperless billing and recurring payments online, go to nnva.gov/Waterworks and click on Pay Water Bill > eBilling Log In.

9. Will this affect my Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) bill?

Your HRSD bill will also convert to a monthly bill, and you will continue to receive it about the same time as your utility bill from Waterworks. For more information from HRSD, visit www.HRSD.com.
