1. Can I take the animal home the same day?

Yes! We know that you have likely been waiting for this moment and preparing for this adoption for some time. PRAS is excited to be able to complete same day adoptions for guests after they have met with our Adoption Specialists and agree it is a good match.

2. Does PRAS adopt to people that rent or who are in the military?

Absolutely! We support adoptions to those that rent or who are in the military. We do recommend that prior to adoption that you have verified and informed your landlord or apartment complex of your intention to adopt an animal, and that you are aware of any Pet policy prior to coming to PRAS. Also that you have a successful plan in place if your living situation were to change suddenly. If you have questions you are welcome to bring a paper or digital copy of your Pet Policy with you and we can help review it with you to make sure that you meet the requirements of your pet policy.

3. What if I have other pets at home?

It is great that you have included them in your plan and given them consideration when looking to adopt a new companion. Your Adoption Specialist will discuss with you everything we know about the animal you are interested in and can additionally provide helpful information on how to do animal introductions with your other pets.

Additional Animal Meet and Greets may be required based on the behavioral profile and needs for the individual animal. Those can be scheduled on a case by case basis to best support you as the adopter.

4. Can I bring my personal dog to PRAS to help choose my next companion?

At this time PRAS is only allowing guests to bring their personal dogs for dog to dog meet and greets.

It is recommended that you leave your personal dog at home until you have first met with the PRAS animal you are interested in. We recommend this to prevent your pet from getting stressed while they wait and we can plan for that next interaction either same day or the following day.

To bring your personal dog companion to our PRAS facility we do require you to bring your dog’s current Vaccine History that displays they are up to date with their Rabies vaccine and/or Rabies Certificate. (The rabies tag alone is not sufficient).

5. Can I bring my personal cat to PRAS to help choose my next companion?

No. PRAS does not allow guests to bring their personal cats to our adoption center. Your personal cat can become very stressed and unhappy which can make for a very dissatisfied experience. Don’t worry—PRAS Adoption Specialists will help you with examples of how to introduce them to their new friend.

6. What forms of payment do you accept for the adoption fee?

PRAS accepts cash, check, or credit card.  We do not accept American Express.

7. Can I bring my adopted companion back to PRAS for medical care?

Unfortunately no. Once you adopt an animal from PRAS all medical responsibility is now up to you. However, PRAS has partnered with several veterinary clinics in the area that have offered to complete a complimentary vet exam within 7-10 days after your adoption. We recommend using that to help establish a great relationship with your new vet.

For most cat and dog adoptions there is also an offer for pet health insurance available through 24hour Pet Watch and Pet Health that you can also utilize. Some limitations apply. Speak to a member of the front desk team for more details.

8. What is included in the adoption fee?

When adopting a cat or dog from PRAS your adoption fee covers:

• Spay/Neuter Surgery
• All Age Appropriate Vaccines + Boosters during their stay with us
• Rabies Vaccine if older than 12 weeks
• Deworming and Flea Treatments
• Microchip * This is registered with your information when you finalize your adoption.
• Age appropriate diagnostic testing for dogs (Heartworm test) and cats (FIV/FeLV test)
• Any current medications while the animal is in our care.

9. Can I place an animal on hold to purchase supplies before bringing for my new companion home?

At this time PRAS is not using Adoption Holds unless it is for a dog to dog introduction. PRAS has a great supply of retail items like collars, leashes, carriers, crates, toys and bowls that you can purchase at time of adoption so you can take the animal home with you the same day and still feel prepared.
