James River Fishing Pier New Extension Now Open

The James River Fishing Pier is almost double in length now that the second phase extension is open to the public.  The completion of Phase II adds 1,112 linear feet to the newly built pier that opened last summer, providing a recreational 2,364 total feet of pier length.  James River Fishing Pier operates 24 hours most days during the summer and is beautifully lit with LED lights for night fishing. Update on Sanitary Sewer Pipeline Replacement Project

Progress continues on an $8 million Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) project to install approximately 10,300 linear feet of sanitary sewer pipe and valves to replace pipeline built in 1970s. The new installation will reduce the likelihood of a pipeline failure, improve system operation, increase capacity and enhance HRSD’s ability to protect public health and the environment for decades to come.

The project involves replacing pipeline along Warwick Boulevard from Scufflefield Road, to Boxley Boulevard, along Boxley to Menchville Road, and Menchville to Riverview Farm Park. Read more...

A Message from the Newport News Fire Department…

The Newport News Fire Department would like to remind residents and visitors to practice fire safety this Fourth of July. It is unlawful for any person in the City of Newport News to own, sell, possess, store, display, use, or explode any fireworks to include sparklers. Fireworks displays should be left to professionals to avoid injuries that result from personal use. Everyone is encouraged to visit our 4th of July Stars in the Sky event at Victory Landing Park for a beautiful and safe firework display!  More safety tips from the Newport News Fire Department.
