Newport News NLightN Holiday Tour Returns For Second Year

All are invited to help illuminate the city

We are all ready for some merriment and magic this year. To light up the city and create memorable moments for residents and guests, Newport News is once again hosting the NlightN Holiday Tour, which is part of the Ferguson NlightN Event Series. Residents, businesses, churches/places of worship and other organizations are invited to become part of the tour, which will take drivers from one end of the city to the other to enjoy light displays. Decorations can be tacky, majestic, elaborate, colorful and more – we want to see them all!

“We launched the NlightN Holiday Tour last year when most families stayed apart during the holidays due to the pandemic,” said Newport News Mayor McKinley L. Price.  “Nearly 60 residents participated in the first light tour, and I know we can make it bigger and better this year. Thank you to our innovative Geographic Information System (GIS) team for making it easy to find the best light displays in Newport News.  I look forward to driving around the city to enjoy the hard work and creativity of our residents while taking in the magic of the holidays in Newport News.”

To get involved, interested participants can visit the NlightN Holiday Tour website and enter the address of the location that will be decorated.  There is no cost to participate and all are invited to be part of the tour.

The city also created an NlightN Holiday Tour map to make it easy for people to find brightly-lit areas in Newport News.  Every participating location will be featured on the website, which is mobile optimized and user friendly.  The city modified the website this year so it is easier to use on your phone to find the best light displays around.

In addition to being featured on the NlightN Holiday Tour website, participants can pick up a sign announcing they are part of the tour.  Those who register will receive an email regarding pick up locations.

All are invited to take part in the Ferguson NlightN Holiday Event Series, which includes three main events – the classic Celebration in Lights at Newport News Park, the magical Lights at the Fountain at City Center, and the art and technology focused ARTech Lights at Brooks Crossing – along with additional events throughout the city.  The series begins Thanksgiving Day and extends through New Year’s Day.  For more information on the Ferguson NlightN Holiday Event Series, visit www.nnva.gov/NlightN or call 757-926-1400.
