[ARCHIVED] SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: Juvenile Shot in Shoulder

7/11/17 UPDATE:

The 11-year-old from last night's shooting was treated & released from the hospital. The victim was not the intended target in this incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

7/10/17 ORIGINAL RELEASE:

On July 10, 2017, at 10:05 PM, Newport News Communications received a call of a shooting in the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, an 11-year-old Newport News juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. It was reported that the male was outside taking out trash when he was struck in the shoulder by gunfire. It is unknown if his injury is life threatening at this time. He was transported to an area hospital for further treatment. There is no suspect information at this time and police are still on scene investigating.
