Most Newport News City offices will be closed on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. This includes City Hall, City offices at City Center at Oyster Point, Newport News Waterworks’ customer services offices, the Public Works Operations Center, and both locations of the Treasurer’s Office and Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office (City Hall and Denbigh).
In addition, all Newport News public libraries will be closed on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4.
Newport News Recovery Operations Center (formerly the Residential Waste Drop-Off & Composting Facility, i.e., landfill) will be closed on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4.
All garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collection -The Solid Waste Division plans to collect as usual on Monday, July 3. No collection will occur on Tuesday, July 4. Tuesday’s collection will be conducted on Wednesday, July 5. Wednesday’s collection will be delayed one day to Thursday, July 6 and Thursday’s collection will be collected on Friday, July 7.
The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, which serves the residents of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County, will be open on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4. NOTE: The shelter will be open for owner surrenders, stray drop-offs, and owner re-claims from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Adoptions are available from 12 – 5 p.m.
