After being evaluated at the hospital, medical personnel determined that the victim was not struck by a bullet, but was struck by debris from where the bullet(s) struck the floor and other items in the store.

6/18/17 UPDATE:
On June 18, 2017 at approximately 5:20 P.M. officers responded to 2001 25th Street at the Green City Supermarket in reference to a robbery from business. As units were responding, the call was updated with information that the clerk had been shot.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the clerk who was suffering from what appeared to be non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers determined that two suspects entered the business and demanded money from the clerk. A physical altercation occurred and both suspects fired several shots, striking the victim. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money from the business.
The victim, a 56-year-old Newport News man, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
One suspect wore a yellow shirt, blue jeans and had a black scarf around his face. He appeared to be in his late 20s to early 30s with a slim build. The second suspect wore a red shirt and dark blue jeans and a black ski mask. He appears to be in his mid-30s and had a “thick” build.

At about 5:20 PM June 18, 2017 police and medics responded to a report of a robbery and shooting at the Green City Super Market. Officers were told that two black males entered the store, one wearing a yellow shirt and blue jeans the other wearing a red shirt and blue jeans. Both were armed with handguns. A physical altercation occurred and both suspects fired multiple shots striking the victim, a 56-year-old Newport News man. The victim was transported to a local hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. There is no further information available at this time.
