On February 12th, 2017 at 6:36 PM, Newport News Police were dispatched to the Speedway located in the 6100 Block of Jefferson Avenue in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, a 33 year-old Newport News man who stated a robbery had occurred. The victim stated a black male wearing a black hoodie, white t-shirt, a white top wrapped around his lower face, and black jeans entered the store and displayed a handgun. The victim stated the suspect gestured with his hand to give up the money. The victim emptied his drawer and gave an undisclosed amount to the suspect. The suspect also took an undisclosed amount of money from a customer inside. After the robbery, the suspect fled the business on foot. There were no reported injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
