[ARCHIVED] Ella's Place with The Unifics

Ella's Place a Pop-up Jazz Club

Throughout 2017, during the anniversary year of her 100th birthday, the City will honor the life and music of Newport News’ own, Ella Fitzgerald – “The First Lady of Song” with the Ella Fitzgerald Centennial Celebration. The opening of Ella’s Place is only one of many events that will take place during the year.

On Sunday, January 22nd, join the celebration at Ella’s Place, pop-up jazz club, from 7:00 - 11:00 PM, visit Ella's Place at 711 Thimble Shoals Boulevard in City Center in Newport News and enjoy a performance by The Unifics.  The Unifics remain a show-stopping soul group, whose legendary performances thrill crowds and leave following acts stunned with trepidation. Originally established at Howard University by musical aficionados, the late Al Johnson and Tom Fauntleroy, The Unifics continue to raise the bar with music and polished showmanship. With each show a lesson in musical history and professionalism, singers Charlie Lockhart and Garrett Hall round out the fine-tuned musical foursome. Prolific songwriters, their impressive catalog of published and unpublished songs are highly sought after in the industry.

Ella’s Place is sponsored by Greater24 Positive World Network, Binchmark, CCA Commercial Floors & Interiors, Go Green Electric, Marriott, Pomoco and PR Flight.

Tickets for Ella’s Place events are $10 and can be purchased at www.downinggross.org.
