The City of Newport News recognizes that a strong cultural presence adds to the quality of life in the community and enhances our ability to attract and retain businesses and residents. In Fiscal Year 2014, City Council established the Cultural Attractions Fund to provide one-time operational and/or project support to local cultural arts entities adversely impacted by the continued effects of the economic recession. These funds are intended to serve as a financial safety net to ensure the ongoing viability of the local cultural assets and should serve as an incentive to encourage private fundraising and grant match investment.
