This weekend (through Sunday, December 4, 2016) and next weekend (Thursday, December 8 through Sunday, December 11, 2016), the Newport News Police Department will conduct DUI patrol operations. These operations will last from 8:30 PM until 2:30 AM each night and will consist of additional officers focusing their patrol activities in areas where motorists are more likely to be operating their vehicles while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The officers assigned to this operation will be working in an overtime capacity and will be paid through a Division of Motor Vehicles traffic safety grant.
The areas where the officers will be concentrating will not be made public prior to the operation. However, members of the media are invited and encouraged to cover this event to include riding with an officer while they patrol. Media may make arrangements to ride with an officer by contacting the Public Information Office or the on-call PIO.
