The City of Newport News Hispanic Advisory Committee is holding its 7th Annual International Soccer and Community Festival on Saturday, August 20th. This free event is open to the public and will take place at Riverview Farm Park, 100 City Farm Road, located at the intersection of Menchville Road and Riverview Parkway, adjacent to Menchville High School.
An adult soccer tournament takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with eight teams representing various cultures and ethnicities including Korean, Hispanic, Bosnian, and others as well as a team from the Newport News Police Department. Children ages 7-12 can participate in the free youth soccer clinic taught by players from Christopher Newport University from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The community resource fair to educate citizens about available programs and services runs from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Citizens can speak with representatives and receive information from more than 20 organizations. Children’s activities include an array of games, bounce house, face painters, balloon artists, and more along with a DJ, free popcorn and giveaways. Other food will be available from vendors for a fee.
