[ARCHIVED] A Message to our Customers – August 2, 2016

We have received complaints from some of our customers regarding taste and odors associated with drinking water supplied by Newport News Waterworks. First, let us apologize to you our customers for this issue as it is always our desire to provide you with the highest quality water and complaints are an indication we are not doing so.

We have made some changes in our treatment approach in an effort to address the taste and odor concerns. With the extremely hot weather we have noted increased algae counts in our reservoirs which we believe may be responsible for the taste and odors. In addition to the treatment adjustments we will be performing directed flushing of our distribution system in some areas to clear the system more rapidly.

We want to assure you that this is an aesthetic concern and not a public health concern. The water currently meets all Virginia Department of Health regulatory requirements and is safe to drink. Please be assured we are working to correct these issues as soon as possible.
