[ARCHIVED] Newport News Tourism Development Office Hires Tourism Specialist

Andrea Moran recently joined the Newport News Tourism Development Office as a Tourism Specialist, replacing James Dean, who is now working as manager of the Virginia Welcome Center in New Kent.

Moran will be responsible for promoting the city to state welcome centers and visitor centers and to Virginia AAA offices and consumers. She will also represent Newport News at tradeshows and sales missions, on familiarization tours, and during orientations, festivals and events.

Additionally, Moran will oversee the family reunion and class reunion markets by handling all requests for city information, assisting reunion planners with their lodging needs, reaching out to planners through direct-mail campaigns, and coordinating a biennial seminar for them. She will also handle all convention services needed for groups booked by the tourism office.

Other duties include developing and coordinating familiarization tours and sales missions and producing newsletters for the state’s welcome centers, its visitor centers and the local tourism industry – along with AAA offices in our top feeder markets.

“Andrea’s enthusiasm is contagious and her extensive knowledge and love for our city and region has already sparked her mind and spirit with some new and creative ideas that await her implementation,” said Cindy Brouillard, Newport News Tourism Director. “There is no doubt she will add another great dimension to our already fantastic team.”

Moran graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Mass Communications. For 13 years, she worked for the Virginia Living Museum as Director of Marketing and Public Relations. She has also worked for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as the Hampton Roads Communications Coordinator and as an Advertising Copywriter with Ferguson Enterprises. A resident of Yorktown, Moran started with the Newport News Tourism Development Office on July 1.
