Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Impact 2014 - Backpack Give-away, STEM Fair and Field of Friends Community Fun Day will be held at South Morrison Family Education Center. Free and open to the public, IMPACT 2014 will be held at 746 Adams Drive, Newport News, VA. The event will combine a school supply backpack giveaway with a family resource event. There will be activities for youth, community resource information, games, and hot dogs. The Community Family exhibits will provide information about immunizations that children may need before their return to school.
Back packs have been prepared for elementary, middle and high school youth but are limited in number and the child must be present.
In the continuing efforts to improve relationships between the community and emergency services personnel (Police, Fire, Sheriff, etc.) and to strengthen community ties, each police precinct hosts a Field of Friends Community Fun Day during the month of August. Each event is also free and open to the public and feature games, food, prevention materials, community resources and the opportunity to interact with the City’s first responders.
