[ARCHIVED] Stabbing Homicide Results in Juvenile Arrest

At approximately: 2:45 P.M. on September 20, 2015, police and medics responded to a report of a stabbing in the 800 Block of Lorraine Drive. When units arrived they found a female victim with what appeared to be a life threatening stab wound. An officer performed CPR on the victim until medics arrived. Medics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Officers detained a 16-year-old Newport News female suspect at the scene. The victim and the suspect were known to each other and had been involved in an ongoing dispute.

The victim is identified as Abigail Cruz, 20, of first block of South Pine Court in Newport News.

A 16-year-old (please note the change in age from earlier) Newport News female has been charged with one count each of first degree murder and use of a knife in the commission of a felony and is being held in detention.

Virginia State Code prohibits law enforcement from releasing the identity of juveniles charged with criminal offenses.
