On September 18, 2015, at approximately 5:34 A.M., a call was received in Police Communications for a shooting at the intersection of Garrow Road and Shannon Drive in the Denbigh area of the City.
Police arrived to find a male victim lying in the roadway with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the body. He was treated on scene by first responders and minutes later transported to a local hospital by medics for further treatment. Despite the efforts of the hospital medical staff the victim died later at the hospital.
The victim is identified as Jalin Marquis Deberry, 21, with a last known address in the first block of Ponderosa Drive in Hampton.
The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with Information to call Newport News Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Crime Line callers may remain totally anonymous, are never required to testify in court and could receive a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
