The City of Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department will present the “4th of July Stars in the Sky” event on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Victory Landing Park (located at the end of 23rd St. at the James River). At 7:00 p.m., the event begins with free children’s rides (giant slides, moon bounces, an obstacle course, face painting) and strolling entertainment. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, seafood, hot dogs, hamburgers, and frozen treats. Entertainment will be provided by the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band ensemble Full Spectrum from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award–winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico, presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries, will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 p.m.
Full Spectrum, a high energy band that features a horn section, is one of the newest ensembles in the USAF Heritage of America Band. This group of dynamic musicians is in many ways the most versatile group within the unit. They have the unique ability to truly play a 'full spectrum' of music - ranging from Pop, Hip Hop, Funk, R&B, Latin, and Classic Rock. These world-class musicians are stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia.
Admission and parking are free.
