The City of Newport News Hispanic Advisory Committee to the City Manager is hosting its fifth annual International Soccer and Community Outreach Event on Saturday, August 16th. This free event is open to the public and will take place at Riverview Farm Park, located at the intersection of Menchville Road and Riverview Parkway, adjacent to Menchville High School.
Soccer matches will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and organizations, many of whom will have children’s activities, will be present from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This year’s event will also include a free youth soccer clinic from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The clinic is being conducted by Newport News FC Soccer Club and is open to youth ages 7 to 12.
Children’s activities will include inflatables, interactive games, and face painting. Musical entertainment and food vendors will also be on-site. In addition, there will be informational displays from more than 20 community, city and civic agencies including Newport News Fire, Newport News Public Schools, Healthy Families, Health Department, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, and more.
The soccer tournament will consist of six community and local government teams representing various cultures and ethnicities including Korean, Hispanic, Bosnian, and European.
