[ARCHIVED] 2015 Virginia Senior Games to be held May 12 – 16, 2015 in Newport News

The 2015 Virginia Senior Games will be held in Newport News on May 12 – 16, 2015. 680 athletes age 50 and older from throughout Virginia will compete in eighteen sports at venues in Newport News. The sports are Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Billiards, Bowling, Cycling, Disc Golf, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickelball, Racquetball, Road Race, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball. In addition to the competitive events, there will be an Athletes’ Party at City Center at Oyster Point on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. This will be the third consecutive year that Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism has hosted the Virginia Senior Games. The Virginia Senior Games is an open competition with no qualifying scores/times required for entry.

The oldest athlete registered to compete is Charles (Charlie) T. Edwards, age 96, from Springfield, VA who will be competing in Archery (Compound Release). The 2015 athlete t-shirt was designed by Dr. Sam Morton, an avid participant in the Virginia Senior Games in Bowling and Horseshoes, who passed away on July 8, 2014.
