Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism will present a free concert by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Center at Oyster Point. The concert will feature selections by Johann Strauss, Jr., Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Franz Schubert. The Sound of Music, A Symphonic Picture (Richard Rodgers/Arr. By Robert Russell Bennett), will showcase the familiar songs from the film, which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.
Food and beverages (beer and wine proceeds benefit The Woman’s Club of Newport News) will be available for purchase at the concert Free parking is available in the Merchants Walk Parking Garage (from I-64, take Exit 256A onto Oyster Point Rd., turn left onto Canon Blvd., turn right onto Town Center Drive, turn left to enter the Merchants Walk Parking Garage) and the Fountain Way Parking Garage (from I-64, take Exit 256A onto Oyster Point Rd., turn left onto Canon Blvd., turn right onto Thimble Shoals Blvd., turn right onto Fountain Way, turn left into the Fountain Way Parking Garage).
