Police Department - Public Information Office

Posted on: March 20, 2015

On Saturday, March 28, 2015, the Police Department will hold a kick-off event for the Community C.R.I.M.E. Planning Process (C.R.I.M.E. stands for "Crime Reduction through Informed (Community) Members Engaging").

The session was rescheduled from its original February 28th date due to inclement weather, and will still be held at the original location: First Baptist Church, Newport News, 12716 Warwick Boulevard. The session begins at 9:00 a.m., and will run through 12:00 p.m.

C.R.I.M.E. is a community-based crime control planning process consisting of a series of meetings over the next six months between the community and the police to allow those involved to assemble the information, partnerships and resources needed to create a vision and set of strategies that can make our community safer and take steps to make the created vision a reality. More in-depth information will be provided at the upcoming session.

Chief Richard Myers and other City officials would like to extend an invitation to citizens, business members, and others who are committed to the vision of a safer Newport News, and are interested in taking the steps towards making that vision a reality.

To RSVP for this event, please e-mail, or call (757) 249-2230 and leave a voicemail message to mailbox #8999. For more information, please call Sue Wills, Police Planning Coordinator, at 928-4361.
