Newport News knows that not-for-profit organizations play an important role in improving the quality of life for our community. To encourage nonprofit organizations to provide services to Newport News residents, we have established a system to award monetary grants to qualified organizations.
Grant funds are intended to provide support to not-for-profit agencies serving the City of Newport News. The grants are incentives designed to foster new services or expand existing services in the city. Programs and services must be easily accessible to Newport News residents and service costs should be documented.
Any local, non-profit, 501c(3) organizations may apply for funding if they meet the legal requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Internal Revenue Service, and the City of Newport News. The organization must provide significant, measurable direct services related to the health, safety, and education of the residents of Newport News. Organizations cannot receive grants from other city resources for the same program for which funding is requested.
Applications are available online and are due by December 8. Please contact the Department of Budget and Evaluation at 757-926-8733 with any questions.
