Newport News is moving forward with a Gun Violence Intervention Grant program for community organizations that provide actionable and sustainable solutions to the issue. We are finalizing the grant application and plan to release it over the next few weeks.
To support organizations interested in applying for available funds, the city is hosting a Pre-Application Session on Wednesday, May 25 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center (570 McLawhorne Drive). During this meeting, city representatives will share information on the grant application and provide insight on funding priorities. Organizations will also be able to ask questions so they are prepared to respond to the grant application. Organizations interested in applying for the grant are not required to attend this session, but participation is strongly encouraged. Organizations are asked to register online for this session.
In addition to the Pre-Application Session, the city is hosting a Grants 101 Session on Wednesday, June 1 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center. This session will help organizations that have never responded to a grant application before by sharing information on the grantmaking process. Content will include how to respond to questions, common pitfalls, the importance of clarity and conciseness, the power of collaboration, and more. Register for this session online.
To keep up to date on the grant process, community organizations are invited to provide their contact information and a brief description of their efforts on the Community Safety Initiative webpage. When details are finalized, we will send an email to registered organizations. Organizations do not need to register on the webpage to apply for the grant; this part of the process is being completed to ensure interested organizations receive updates during the process.
