After holding virtual races in 2021, the Newport News One City Marathon Weekend presented by Newport News Shipbuilding returns to in-person events, with races, celebrations and activities taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

The fun begins on Saturday, March 5 with the Optima Health Maritime 5K in Newport News City Center at 8:00 a.m. Ferguson is the signature supporter of this year’s Nautical Mile Fun Run, which follows the 5K at 9:30 a.m. They are also offering free activities on their newly opened campus in City Center. Family-friendly fun can be had at Tradition Brewing Company in City Center on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., which is free and open to all.

The marathon takes place Sunday, March 6. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. in Newport News Park, runners traverse the entire length of the city with the Victory Arch in downtown’s Yard District serving as the finish line. Along the way, the certified 26.2 mile flat and fast course takes runners past various cultural amenities, educational institutions, businesses and neighborhoods. The marathon can also be run as a relay with two runners tackling the course as a team. Sunday’s events also include the BayPort Credit Union Half Marathon, which starts at 7:00 a.m. at Menchville High School.

The weekend concludes with the One City Celebration in the city’s newly established Yard District. The entire community is invited to 23rd Street to welcome runners and enjoy food, drinks, activities and vendors from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Online registration for all races is now closed. In person registration is available Friday, March 4 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Newport News.
