Applications are now available for the 42nd Newport News Fall Festival of Folklife to be held on October 3 & 4, 2015 in Newport News, Virginia. Held in a beautiful wooded area of the 8,000-acre Newport News Park, this festival attracts 70,000 people and 200 craft exhibitors. In the Juried Craft Area, crafters displaying high-quality traditional crafts compete for the following cash awards: Best in Show ($700) and Craft Category Awards (First Place of $300 in each category- Glass, Clay, Jewelry, Fiber, Folk Art, Furniture, Wood, Metal, Basketry, and Other). In the Heritage Area, craft and historic trade demonstrators compete for Best Demonstration ($200) and Best Display ($200). In Marketplace Crafts (a wide variety of handmade crafts) an award is given for Best Display ($200). There is also Country Store area with famer’s market items including packaged food items (jams, bread) and fresh produce.
