Each year, the City of Newport News partners with the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to host a State of the City. During this annual event, Mayor McKinley L. Price highlights key activities that have taken place over the past year. Due to COVID-19, this year’s State of the City address, which is free, will be held digitally on Thursday, October 29. The virtual doors open at 7:30 AM for messages from sponsors and, at 8 AM, the fun begins!
This year’s theme is “2020: Through a New Lens,” and highlights how the city recognized the challenges of the coronavirus but did not let them deter us from our vision, to create a diverse and prosperous waterfront city of science, technology, innovation and art, where people come together as a vibrant, inclusive community. Mayor Price and members of Newport News City Council will discuss the city’s Strategic Priorities, Goals and Objectives that focus on people, places and government. They will also share how the city has been creative and innovative in providing services during a pandemic.
This free event is open to all. To register, visit the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce website.
If you can’t tune into the event, set a reminder to check this newsletter on October 29. We’ll have an article with a link to the video. The State of the City address will also run on Newport News Television (Cox 48/Verizon 19) and online.
