[ARCHIVED] Election 2020 Voting Information

election-2020

Election Day is on Tuesday, November 3! If you haven't already voted, make sure you create a plan now for how you will vote.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail has passed, and for those who have one to turn in ballots can be returned using the ballot drop boxes off on the days and times of the in-person early voting listed below, or mailed to the Voter Registrar.

If mailed, your ballot must be post-marked by Tuesday, November 3 and received in the Voter Registrar's Office by noon on Friday, November 6. To track your ballot and confirm your vote has been received, visit the Newport News Voter Registrar's website.

Registered voters may vote early in-person until Saturday, October 31. Below are reminders about in person voting in Newport News.

  • Vote at City Hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. We have extended hours until 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • Our satellite voting location is at Fountain Plaza II in City Center (700 Town Center Drive). This site is open Monday and Wednesday from 11 AM to 7 PM and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Both locations will be open on Saturday, October 24, and Saturday, October 31, from 9 AM to 5 PM.
  • If you requested an Absentee Ballot but decide you'd rather vote early in person, bring your Absentee Ballot to the polling place.

Polling places will be open throughout the city on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, from 6 AM until 7 PM. For information on your polling location, visit the Virginia
Department of Elections website
and enter your home address in the search bar.

If you are voting in person, Virginia law requires that you provide an acceptable form of identification at the polls. Please review the list of acceptable items on the Virginia
Department of Elections website
before heading out to vote.

In addition to the President/Vice President, Virginia voters are electing a United States Senator and voting on two proposed Constitutional Amendments. Newport News voters are also electing Members to the House of Representatives. Our city is situated in two Congressional Districts, so candidates vary by the voter's address. To view a sample ballot, visit the Newport News Voter Registrar's website.

Please vote on or before Tuesday, November 3! For questions regarding voting in Newport News, contact the Voter Registrar's Office at 757-926-8683 or lewisvv@nnva.gov.
