- Per the Governor’s Executive order 57, the May 5, 2020 General Election will now be held on May 19, 2020.
- Per the Governor’s Executive Order 56, the June 9, 2020 Republican Primary Election will now be held on June 23, 2020.
We encourage citizens to register to vote, update voter registration information, or request an absentee ballot online.
Due to COVID-19, voters may request an absentee ballot by mail for the May 19th General Election and the June 23rd Republican Primary Election using “My disability or illness” if they do not have another qualifying reason.
Although Newport News City offices are closed to the public, the Newport News Office of Elections will offer curbside services during regular office hours, if needed. Please park where you see a Voter Parking sign in the parking lot of City Hall and contact our office via telephone at 757-926-8683 should you require assistance.
- The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail for the May 19, 2020 General Election is 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12th.
- The deadline to register to vote or update an existing registration for the June 23, 2020 Republican Primary is Monday, May 18th (5:00 PM for in person & 11:59 PM online.)
- The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail for the June 23, 2020 Republican Primary Election is 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.
