[ARCHIVED] Arrest Made In Homicide Investigation

Yesterday afternoon a suspect was taken into custody in reference to the homicide that occurred on September 16, 2019 in the 13300 block of Jefferson Ave.

The suspect has been identified as Elijah Dayron Armstrong, 21-years-old, of the 500 block of Turnberry Boulevard in Newport News. Armstrong has been charged with 1st degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in reference to the incident. Mr. Armstrong turned himself in to police Monday evening.

“I would like to thank the citizens who came forward, the media for their assistance in sharing information about the suspect, and in particular the patrol officers and detectives who worked diligently which resulted in a speedy arrest,” said Chief Steve Drew.

The victim has been identified as Mr. Luis Eduardo Zambrana, Jr., a 20-year-old Newport News man.

Additionally, Mr. Armstrong has been identified as the suspect in the homicide that occurred in the 100 block of Ireland Street in Hampton yesterday. Armstrong is currently being held in the Newport News City Jail.
