On August 25th, 2019 at 9:06 PM, Newport News Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Charles Street in reference to a domestic assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, a 27-year-old Yorktown woman who was found suffering from facial injuries. She was transported by medics to a local hospital for treatment. Following the investigation, officers obtained warrants for Abduction, Unauthorized Use, Malicious Wounding, Grand Larceny, and Assault on Family Member for 34-year-old Jermaine Outlaw of the 300 block of Charles Street in Newport News.
After receiving the report, Newport News Police made this case and finding Jermaine Outlaw a top priority. Mr. Outlaw was located and taken into custody this morning without incident at a local motel. During his arrest, he was found to be in possession of suspected cocaine and a firearm.
“When I saw the photos of the victim following the assault, I was sad and angry. I have spoken on various occasions about domestic violence being an issue in Hampton Roads and locating someone capable of such violence became a top priority for the Newport News Police Department. I am proud of the officers who worked quickly to locate and remove Mr. Outlaw from the streets of Newport News,” stated Police Chief Steve Drew.
Mr. Outlaw has been booked on the following charges:
(1)ABDUCTION: BY FORCE, INTIMIDATION OR DECEPTION
(2) MALICIOUS WOUNDING
(3) STRANGULATION OF ANOTHER
(4) MALICIOUS WOUNDING
(5) ASSAULT: (MISDEMEANOR)
(6) ASSAULT: ON FAMILY MEMBER
(7) ASSAULT: ON FAMILY MEMBER
(8) UNAUTHORIZED USE: ANIMAL/VEHICLE/ETC,LARCENY>200
(9) GRAND LARCENY: STEAL MOTOR VEHICLE VALUE > $200
Additional charges are pending on Mr. Outlaw in reference to the suspected cocaine and firearm located on his person during the arrest.
