The City of Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department will present the 4th of July Stars in the Sky on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Victory Landing Park (50 25th St.). The event begins at 7:00 PM with free children's inflatables (moon bounces, obstacle courses), free face painting, the Tomcats Dixieland Band (performing near the Newport News Victory Arch) and strolling entertainment. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers and seafood. Live music will be provided by the USAF Heritage of America Band Full Spectrum from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM Free light-up give-a-way items will be given out during the event (while supplies last). A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico, will be presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries, and will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 PM

Full Spectrum consists of six active-duty musicians, who recently returned from a 4-month deployment to Southeast Asia. The group, part of the USAF Heritage of America Band, regularly performs throughout a 15-state region, including the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas. Activated in 1941, The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band has a rich history of inspiring public patriotism and enhancing esprit de corps among all the US military service branches. These world-class musicians are stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia. They present over 300 events annually for the general public and in support of Airman morale and protocol events. The USAF Heritage of America Band remains at the forefront of communicating Air Force core values and preserving and enriching America's military and musical heritage into the 21st century.

Admission and parking are free. Directions: Take I-64 to I-664S, take Exit 6 to 26th Street, turn left onto Huntington Avenue, and turn right onto 23rd Street. Free parking is available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the Downtown area.   3. Turn left onto Huntington Avenue
  4. Turn right onto 23rd Street
  5. Victory Landing Park is at the end of 23rd Street along the James River (50 25th St.)


Free parking at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and non-restricted lots in the Downtown area. Handicapped parking is located in the lot at 23rd Street & West Avenue and designated spaces throughout the Downtown area.
