[ARCHIVED] NNPD USES #9PMROUTINE TO REMIND RESIDENTS TO LOCK THEIR VEHICLES

9pmroutine

Vehicle theft and theft from vehicles is a national problem and Newport News is certainly not immune to this crime trend.

Therefore, the Newport News Police Department will join police departments around the nation and participate in the #9pmroutine social media campaign. The campaign is designed to reduce vehicle theft and theft from vehicles by posting regular reminders at 9:00 p.m. (reminders that we hope you will find entertaining) on our departments social media platforms to help you remember to lock up your car and to make sure your home is secure, as well.

Unfortunately, a surprising number of vehicle thefts are a result of keys being left in the car or spare keys being “hidden” somewhere in the car, as well. In addition, theft from vehicles is usually the result of leaving valuable items in plain sight.

“We certainly understand that life gets hectic sometimes and forgetting to lock your car happens. That’s why we ask that you please follow us so we can help remind you and hopefully help you protect what belongs to you,” said Kelly King, NNPD Communications Manager. Please follow us on the any or all of our social media platforms listed before for your regular reminders, and hopefully we can help you make this a regular habit.
