On July 23, 2018 Newport News Communications received a call regarding a shooting in the 4400 block of Jefferson Avenue (Roadside Cafe). Upon arrival, officers located a 50 year old Hampton man outside of the establishment suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life-threatening.
After a thorough investigation, on July 31, 2018 Quentin Torianto Jefferson, a 41 year old black man of the 500th block of 40th Street in Newport News was arrested and charged with malicious wounding; firearm: poss by non-violent felon; and firearm: use in the commission of a felony. “I would like to thank the detectives and officers of the NNPD and the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force who worked diligently to locate and quickly apprehend the suspect in this case,” said Chief of Police, Steve Drew . “They, along with the citizens of our community, are certainly doing their part to help reduce violent crime in Newport News.
