Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 25 year old Newport News man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On July 22, 2018, after following up on a citizen tip related to the shooting, Domonique Marcell Mills, a 23 year old Newport News man was arrested and charged with: Assault: Malicious, Victim Severely Injured; Firearm: Use in Commission of a Felony; Firearm: Poss By Non-Violent Felon Convicted. Mills has an extensive criminal history. A booking photo is attached.
Chief of Police, Steve Drew wants to highlight and thank the detectives who worked through the night, and the officers who responded and made the arrest. “However, it was the citizens who played an integral role in the identification and arrest of Mr. Mills and this is a perfect example of the partnerships that will reduce violent crime in the City of Newport News,” stated Drew.
Chief Drew has made several “community walks” in particularly in high crime areas to learn more about what the NNPD can do to help and to urge citizens to get involved.
