Citizens encouraged to attend and provide input
Building Better Futures, the City’s youth and gang violence prevention initiative, is holding two Community Engagement sessions to gather feedback and support from residents for the development of a strategic plan. The purpose of the strategic plan is to strengthen prevention and intervention efforts in the city as a means of reducing violence. Citizen participation is vital to developing this plan and all residents are encouraged to attend one of the following two sessions:
Tuesday, July 17, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center 2410 Wickham Avenue | Tuesday, August 21, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Denbigh Community Center 15198 Warwick Boulevard |
During each session residents will discuss:
- how they are impacted by violence;
- the strengths of the community; and
- possible solutions to crime in their neighborhoods.
Building Better Futures currently runs two major programs – the Summer Training and Enrichment Program (STEP) and Seeking Opportunities Within (SOW) – along with other smaller programs throughout the year to help address youth and gang violence in the city. To enhance and expand the current efforts, Building Better Futures hired a consultant to assist in creating this strategic plan.
Everyone is welcome to attend a Community Engagement session. Light refreshments will be served. For more information contact buildbetterfutures@nnva.gov or (757) 933-2311.
