This past Thursday, June 28, 2018, Chief Steve Drew was sworn in as the Chief of Police for Newport News, Virginia. The ceremony was held at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center. In front of a packed auditorium, Chief Drew was sworn in by the Honorable Judge Bryant Sugg. Remarks were made by Chief Alfred Durham, Richmond Chief of Police, where Chief Drew previously served as Deputy Chief. Ms. Cindy Rohlf, City Manager, Mr. Alan Archer, Assistant City Manager and Mayor McKinley Price also offered remarks and welcomed Chief Drew to not only the Newport News Police Department but to the City of Newport News. Soundscapes, a Newport News Public Schools music program provided entertainment before and during the ceremony. Chief Drew addressed the audience and discussed his goals, objectives, and his commitment to the Department and citizens to making Newport News a safe place to live and play. Chief Drew’s parents, Bob and Sue Drew from Cincinnati, Ohio were on hand to help celebrate and a reception was held following the ceremony.
