Free Access to Ancestry.com

Located within Main Street Library, the Martha Woodroof Hiden Memorial Virginiana Room contains over 4300 individual volumes specializing in historical photo_SCVirginia genealogy and local history. This special collection contains books, manuscripts, maps, periodicals, photographs and microfilm on the history of Newport News and Virginia. The Library also has a subscription to Ancestry.com, which is available onsite in the Virginiana Room to any Newport News Public Library cardholder.

A few times per week, Library staff members post photos to the Virginiana Room’s Facebook page. All of these photos are part of the collection available in the Virginiana Room. Be sure to follow the page for snapshots into the city’s past!

The Virginiana Room is located on the first floor of Main Street Library, 110 Main Street in Newport News. The room is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and by appointment on Sunday. Visit the NNPLS website or call 757-591-4858 for more information.
