Libraries to Offer Coding, Robotics, and Snap Circuitry Classes for Youth

Posted on May 22, 2017 at 8:03 AM by Communications Department

The Pearl Bailey Library provides hands on learning activities for youth to create, design and innovate during the summer. Coding, Robotics and Snap Circuitry classes are funded by an Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Grant through the Department of Human Services. The newly created Mobile Maker Space provides a Safe Zone Computer_SCwhere youth can program various robotics kits using Arduino, an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. The young programmers even have an opportunity to customize humanoid robots and use tablets to “drive them.” Youth can explore both sound and light circuitry through the use of Snap Circuits. Creative possibilities are endless with the exploration of virtual worlds using the PlayStation 4 and VR Headset! All Newport News Public Libraries offer access to 3D printers, and STEM hands-on activities for youth.
