Learn and Explore at STEM Community Day

NNPS STEM dayOn Saturday, May 20 thousands of children and adults are coming together to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The annual STEM Community Day happens at Christopher Newport University’s Freeman Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the family for a fun, engaging day of education presented by Newport News Public Schools and Christopher Newport University.

The free event allows everyone to experience robotics, computer programming, 3D printing and other hands-on activities. Families can also explore STEM educational opportunities and professions. Each Newport News school has an exhibit highlighting the school’s STEM curriculum at the event.

Bus transportation is provided for families from the following locations to the event and back starting at 9:30 a.m., with the last buses departing from CNU at 2:00 p.m. 
  • An Achievable Dream Academy, 726 16th Street 
  • An Achievable Dream Middle/High School, 5720 Marshall Avenue 
  • Courthouse Green Townhomes, Old Courthouse Way and Hustings Lane 
  • Discovery STEM Academy, 1712 Chestnut Avenue 
  • Denbigh Early Childhood Center, 15638 Warwick Boulevard 
  • Doris Miller Community Center, 2814 Wickham Avenue 
  • Kate’s Trace Apartments, 600 Kates Trace Circle 
  • Misty Woods Apartments, 557 Diplomat Court 
  • South Morrison Learning Center, 746 Adams Drive
  • Warwick Mobile Homes, 12095 Jefferson Avenue
