Businesses in the City of Newport News are at the heart of the years-long trend of lower local unemployment rates. Start-up entrepreneurs, minority and women-owned businesses, and other major employers have contributed greatly to the economic recovery of the

City and to the Commonwealth as a whole. The City of Newport News is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of the existing businesses for all that they do for the local economy.
City of Newport News along with the State of Virginia proclaimed May “Business Appreciation Month.” The proclamation recognizes the vital contributions the local business community makes toward the economic strength, diversity and overall character of the City. Additionally, the proclamation indicates that, beyond employment, residents of the City of Newport News benefit daily from the numerous displays of charity and the outpouring of support for the many community projects from local businesses.
Businesses within the City drive the local economy and have solidified Newport News’ reputation as a globally competitive location for conducting business. The City is committed to continuously striving to develop and maintain a supportive business climate that encourages local investment, job growth and community involvement.
