ABCD Champions Training

Youth Services Unit is providing Asset Based Community Development Champions training on Saturday, April 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at South Morrison Family Education Center, 746 Adams Drive in Newport News. Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is a powerful and inclusive citizen-driven approach to community development. It has often been said that as people take ownership of their neighborhoods, positive change can happen. This free half-day empowerment opportunity is open to youth and adult residents, faith leaders, community leaders and city employees and is part of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Community Based Violence Prevention grant project. Autism Awareness at Rebounderz

The Youth Services Unit, in partnership with Rebounderz Extreme Fun Center, is also sponsoring a sensory-friendly evening of education about the awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders. The event takes place on Monday, April 24 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Rebounderz, located at 12650 Patrick Henry Drive in Newport News. Paint Night – Alcohol Awareness
A free, innovative
Alcohol Awareness Paint Night
for parents and other adults is taking place on Thursday, April 27 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at South Morrison Family Education Center, 746 Adams Drive in Newport News. Enjoy an evening of painting and lively discussion on the potential impacts of social providing of alcohol to minors. This program is made possible through a grant funded by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Education and Prevention. All the supplies are included.
