In celebration of Earth Day, the City is inviting residents to take part in Clean and Green Newport News – a citywide clean up initiative that encourages volunteers to hit the streets, pick up litter, and beautify their neighborhoods. The Public Works Department is coordinating the

volunteer efforts and will provide the necessary cleanup supplies, including bags for both litter and recyclable materials along with printed information to help identify what items can be recycled. A limited supply of gloves and litter getters are available for volunteers on a first come, first served basis. Volunteers will fill bags with trash and recyclable items and leave them on a corner of their choice to be picked up by the Department of Public Works between April 21-24.
Here’s how to get involved:
• Select an area of your neighborhood that you would like to clean
• Visit the Department of Public Works website and register. Be sure to tell Public Works what street to find the trash bags used to clean your area.
• Visit the lobby of the Public Works Department at 513 Oyster Point Road to receive free trash bags and recycling information
• Gather volunteers from the neighborhood and enjoy the day cleaning your area
• Leave full trash bags in the area that was designated on the volunteer form for pickup
