Marathon Event Overview and Reminders

It’s officially Marathon weekend and the energy in the city is high, but the temperature is dropping. Fortunately, earlier forecasts for snow on Sunday have changed, and all weekend events will take place as scheduled.It is still going to be a cold weekend, so dress accordingly for outside activities!

Events kick off today with the Health and Wellness Expo, sponsored by Riverside, at Denbigh Community Center. You can expect a wide variety of vendors on site providing information regarding health, performing free screenings, and giving away great prizes from noon -7 PM. expoVendorSC

On Saturday, the Health and Wellness Expo continues from 10 AM- 5 PM at Denbigh Community Center and the competition begins at Brooks Crossing during Family Fit and Fun Day. Families are invited to come participate in sports, face painting, obstacle courses, and free fitness demonstrations from noon - 3PM. Later Saturday evening, ticket holders for the Pasta Dinner get to hear from Olympic Gold Medalist, LaTasha Colander Clark while gearing up for Sunday’s big race.

Don’t forget to set the clocks forward on Saturday night for Daylight Saving Time or you may be late to all of Sunday’s fun! Starting at 7 AM Sunday, runners will be ready to take to the streets of Newport News. The nautical mile start_SCmarathon runners start off in Newport News Park at 7 AM. The Maritime 8K participants will begin at 7:30 AM downtown near the Victory Arch. Nautical Mile participants will hit the pavement starting at 10 AM. Witness the runners along the route and cheer them on from Wave Stations across the city.
After you finish your race or while you’re waiting for runners to cross the finish line, party in Victory Landing Park at the One City One Celebration. Enjoy live music, food, games, and vendors.

The 311 Contact Center is open for assistance 6 AM until 2 PM on race day to answer questions about traffic, cancellations, and other citizen concerns and can be reached by calling 757-933-2311 or emailing relay marker_SC

Runners should remember:
Packet Pick-Up - Packet pick-up will take place at the Race Expo held on Friday, March 10 from 12 PM to 7 PM and on Saturday, March 11 from 10 AM to 5 PM. If you are picking up a packet for another runner, you must fill out this form and bring the Packet Pick Up Form.
o Race day packet pick up is only available for the Nautical Mile Fun Run. We advise picking up your registration packet at the expo. If you choose to pick up on race day, we ask that you arrive early to avoid delays.
• Start Times - Sunday, March 12. The Marathon and Marathon Relay start at 7 AM, the Maritime 8K gets underway at 7:30 AM, followed by the Nautical Mile Fun Run at 10 AM.
