Newport News high school seniors who plan to study International affairs, Foreign Languages, or Foreign Service have until March 1 to apply to win a $1,000 scholarship from Sister Cities of Newport News. Sister Cities of Newport News (SCNN) is a nonprofit organization with the mission of building and strengthening international cooperation, understanding and development between the citizens of Newport News and those of the world.
The scholarship is merit based and requires a one-page application and a single essay. The applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and plan to attend a public or private college/university or community college in the fall of 2017. The application and eligibility requirements can be downloaded on the "Program & Events / International Scholarship" tab of the Newport News Sister Cities website or requested by calling (757) 926-1348 or emailing info@sistercities-nn.com. Prior scholarship winners include, Ben Lambert, Pearl Ham, Scott Simpson and Elizabeth Daly. The scholarship will be awarded on March 18 at the organization’s 10th Annual GlobalBee International Quiz at Brittingham-Midtown Community Center in Newport News.
