Recently, the Newport News Police Department (NNPD) welcomed 14 new officers to the department during the 15th Basic Law Enforcement Graduation and Swearing In Ceremony at the Newport News Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Following guest speaker Special Agent in Charge Martin Culreth from the FBI’s Norfolk Field office, the officers
were sworn in by The Honorable Matthew Hoffman, Newport News General District Court Judge. The ceremony also included the Newport News Police Department’s Honor Guard and Pipe and Drum Band.
The ceremony marked the end of nearly six months of rigorous training in both a classroom setting and practical scenarios. Following graduation, each new officer was assigned to a field training officer for additional training before being released on independent patrol. Following their field training, the officers will be assigned to one of the department’s three precincts.
Congratulations to each of the new officers and welcome to the NNPD family!
