Official Groundhog Day Shadow Ceremony, February 2nd
Will he or will he not see his shadow? Chesapeake Chuck, the
Virginia Living Museum’s resident groundhog, makes his seventh annual appearance to determine if Hampton Roads will experience six more weeks of winter… or have an early spring.

Visit the Virginia Living Museum for the day and stop by the outdoor amphitheater for the official ceremony beginning promptly at noon. WAVY TV 10 Meteorologist, Jeremy Wheeler once again joins the Museum and assist the forecasting groundhog determine the future weather.
Museum guests, Deer Park Elementary students and members from the Newport News City Council will also be in attendance to cheer on Chesapeake Chuck.
“He’s the Cinderfella of the woodchuck world,” said Curatorial Director George Mathews. “He’s our own Cinderella for March madness – a small town groundhog at a small event, but a pretty good predictor.” Chesapeake Chuck prepares for his prognosticating duties with special exercise and diet – particularly corn on the cob.
Forget Punxsutawney Phil… he has nothing on Hampton Roads own Chesapeake Chuck! See you on Groundhog Day February 2.
The event is included in Museum admission.
