Want to travel the world for free without leaving the city? 4-14 WAC1_SCCome experience international culture on the peninsula as the City of Newport News and the Virginia Arts Festival presents the 2nd Annual World Arts Celebration. Guests will get to enjoy food, music, dancing, and art from more than 20 countries during the free event at City Center on Saturday, May 21st from 3 PM to 9 PM.

With a “main stage” featuring musicians representing various heritages, sub-stages with dancers, and street performers scattered around the fountain, visitors will feel immersed in cultures from around the globe. Venturing out in the world through culinary delicacies, guests can taste a variety of food from vendors 4-14 WAC2_SCcooking up ethnic specialties and quench their thirst with a beverage in the “Beir Garten.”

The music of India, Irish dancers, Korean martial artists and the food of Vietnam all helped to make last year’s World Arts Celebration truly an international affair. This year the event will even have more countries represented. The event’s planning committee is still accepting applications for performers, cultural groups, and food vendors who are interested in participating in this year’s festival. Groups or vendors interested in participating or individuals interested in volunteering for the event, can call Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism at 757-926-1400 or email Shelly Ezanno
